In reality, what these bans do is lose thousands of dedicated players. I'm not justifying botting in anyway, but this is like throwing jaywalkers in prison while there are murderers out there getting off scotch free. The example you gave of banning someone's obviously main account with 3000+ hours clearly shows that this is just a public relations stunt. He botted, and profited, but he is a jaywalker, and the negative impact he has on the economy and community is a drop in the bucket compared to the the murderers that are making big bucks off of botting.

You didn't even read the blog post, and honestly you sound upset that they are banning botters.

Actually, they have stated that these were all allowed previously. I wish clarification on their present policy.

I hope they don't ban people who use 3d Analyzer, some of us have to use it to even be able to play in certain areas due to crappy integrated graphics.

I'm glad this happened, the bot problem was getting rampant. Unfortunately, however, there were people who were accidentally caught. A couple of my friends were recently reported for "botting". Why? They wanded Dazed targets when they ran Fevered Dreams in HA. I guess this means I can report people who wand trappers in HA, too? Hopefully support will actually listen to legitmate cases...

So? They were cheating. I'm really annoyed that me of all people is put in the position of defending the good work Anet has just done. Yeah there were thousands banned, but the integrity of the game is much more important than how many people are playing. You must be one of those botters, or are just QQ'ing that you never got in on the cash cow.
Justice is swift, those who got banned for the most part probably deserved it. Read the EULA

Thanks Regina!
Now, my little scrubalicious friend. Are you saying you've never ONCE complained about some aspect of PvE? We were talking about botters for MONTHS because it's an aspect of gameplay that is completely destroyed when cheaters are playing.

Now finally once and for all all you haters out there will stop calling The Legendary, Awesome and Amazing Lena a bot! /happy x1000
Thanks Arena.Net! Finally justice is served to the people who ruin this game day by day. Now I can JQ, RA and HA without worrying about bots destroying my gaming experience.
I'd give you all a hug if I could.
edit: I wish I could have seen Dhuum take them away. Sadly I was AFK watching a movie.

Are the following still allowed?
KSMod
TexMod
Multi-Launch, or other methods of running multiple clients
Macros that are not automated
I understand that defining the line between a macro and a "bot" is rather hard to do. Example: Press "CTRL num7" to execute skill # 3 on all hero skill bars. edit: Third party software allows custom hotkeys not available in the control options menu.
Thank you.
Incidentally, I have all of those installed and my account is not banned.
|
I'd also like a response on these matters, especially KSMod, Texmod and Multi-Launch. I'm not particularly interested in macros but can see why other people are (guildie uses macro for drunkard).

Yeah, I use TexMod for cartography. Hope that isn't a bannable offense. If it is, guess I'll have to stop using it.
Regarding the botting bans... awesome job!

Can't emphasize that enough, signing a contract you haven't read is dumb, even on the Internet. And if you break the contract then you must deal with the consequences.
